Catching Up (June Update)

June 21, 2025 | by ajcesario4746@gmail.com

Wow. I haven’t posted here in a while.

Looks like my last post was in January, so I will try to post a high-level overview of what has happened over the past five-ish months.

Firstly, my 5K time is down from 29:52 to 25:04. For the record, this is a thirteen-minute improvement from November, so I am pretty happy about it. I still have five minutes and five seconds to drop by the end of the year, and I feel pretty good about getting that done. I am also in a run group with some friends from high school, and we have been getting together twice a week for the past couple months. Running with other people is cool for many reasons but mainly because it makes it more fun and holds you accountable.

Additionally, in my last post I noted that I was 262 pounds. I have dropped thirty pounds since then and now sit anywhere from 230 to 235 pounds, and even dip below 230 sometimes. I feel really good about this, as I initially started at 271. That’s 40 pounds down. I am still a good bit away from my goal of 180 pounds, but 50 more pounds doesn’t sound absurd in light of the fact that I dropped 40 pounds in less than six months.

In terms of actual races that I have done, I lost track. I want to say that I have down four or five 5Ks this year and I have done two 10Ks. The big news that I have is that I signed up for the DC Half Marathon in September and the Philadelphia Marathon in November. I start training at the end of next month. Super excited!

Diet is still sort of an issue, and I still haven’t kicked the energy drink habit, but that is partially why I am making this post – to kind of give myself a kick in the ass and remind myself of my goals. With that in mind, here are the goals that I want to try and embody for the rest of the year:

  • Intermittent fasting until noon every day (except weekends)
  • Running at least four times a week, with the following guidelines:
    • At least one speed workout day
    • At least one long run day
    • At least two base run days.
  • Gym two to three times a week
    • I am not trying to put on a bunch of muscle at this point but I imagine it will help with weight loss and body image, not that either of those things have been going poorly.

Additionally, when I do break my fasts, I need to break the habit of eating processed foods. I have taken to eating jerky and meat sticks often as well as cheese sticks and bagels. Nothing too terrible, but something that I want to reverse course on.

Overall, though there are some small tweaks that I need to make, I feel really good.
